It was an eccentric mix of cars. DKW Junior, Audi Quattro Coupe, AMC Eagle, a 944, Z32 300zx, Chrysler Win ds or (Canadian Market car)
Disregard my work boot tan. The steering did not feel right, all it needed was a retorque.

Looks like a lot of fun. Do you have a picture of the DKW?

These where taken by Larry of took most of the photos on the drive.

Woah, now that is a stunning ride. Did DKW sell cars in the US? Or is that an import. Even if they did, it is far more likely that one in that good of shape came from Europe. Amazing!
Is it two stroke?

Yup, 2 stroke in-line 3. Unsure of what size it was. C ould have been 741cc, 796cc, or 889cc.

Thanks for reminding me I need to add Eagle to my Craigslist searches. Of course, there are none currently in the surrounding areas.

I suddenly have the urge to watch an AMC Eagle auto-x. Any chance we can make that happen?

2 stroke inline 3. What an uncommon configuration. Of course that car did ride a wave of popular two stroke fuel sippers. DKW is such a fascination company. They pioneered CVTs, didn't they?

I tried to convince the owner too, I mean the track width does exceed the h eight. The be terribly slow. (AMC 4L in-line 6, 3spd automatic), but hilarious to see.

I really don’t know if they pioneered CVT’s. The little details on it where neat, & some where really weird.

Funny coincidence. I sometimes post pics on another forum of obscure cars in local settings. I recently found this - Seattle, 1962, a DKW Junior on the road, local plates:

Fintail is a W111 no older than 1963, I can’t tell more than that.

DAF, not DKW, is the one to blame for CVTs.

Well, Metz had a manually activated CVT much earlier. But that explains the confusion.

Man, I’d like to live in the alternate universe where this mix is just “garden variety”.

Wow, the presence of that car really does not make that look like Seattle. Crazy, I didn't know they were sold in the US. Maybe a local importer?
Is that a Ranchero in the background? Looks like there are people in the back?

You’re thinking of DAF who pioneered CVTs! DKW was pretty on board the 2-stroke bandwagon. In fact, a lot of other cars (like the Wartburg, for example) had engines based on DKW 2-stroke designs!
That little DKW is amazing! I believe that DKW did sell cars at one point in the US and Canada, but I imagine there weren’t many sold...
Check out 2stroketurbo on Youtube. Really cool channel of a mechanic in (I think?) Oregon that works on all cars, but is known for working on classics and has an awesome penchant for microcars and quirky cars! He owns two old DKWs and has several videos on them, but also owns a Kia Towner microvan, a Chinese-built-under-license Suzuki Carry kei van (though with a larger engine), like....4 US-spec Subaru 360s (2 cars, 2 vans)...a Messchersmitt KR200...a Vespa 400 with a VW Beetle engine swap....a Renault 5 (Le Car), a Renault Dauphine, a Honda N600 with a motorbike engine swap....
Really cool channel! He posts some family stuff on there too, but mostly car stuff :)

Didn’t realize they ever used a CVT, just know of their friction-drive set ups.

Turns out that was DAF

CVTs? Yes, that’s what I said.

Probably a small volume operation - that was an era when you could get all kinds of weird stuff - Panhard, Lancia, Toyopet , etc - all sold here once, but probably mainly in coastal cities.
Yep, the other most visible vehicle is a Falcon Ranchero, could be people in the back.
